My thoughts: Sally Lloyd Jones does such a good job presenting to children the stories from throughout the Bible. In The Jesus Storybook Bible she retells the well known stories from the Bible and how Jesus is in - even though in shadow - each of them. Sized for young hands, this thick book has pictures to interest and understandable text that can be read to the young child. As the child grows and learns to read, he or she will begin to read these simply retold stories for themselves.
Originally published in 2007, it's many editions attest to the dependability and trustworthiness of the storybook. This is a storybook and not intended to replace a Bible. There is no chapter/verse text. This is a retelling of the stories that are in the Biblical text.
Perfect as a gift for any occasion and truly memorable for the Easter season.
The women went to the tomb..... it was empty!

As we approach Spring time, we as Christians especially look forward to our most sacred season of remembrance. That is the Death, Burial, and Resurrection of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
We would be remiss in our personal responsibility to our beloved children if we did not teach them faithfully the reason we have a special remembrance at this time. It is because our Lord lives; and because He lives, we have eternal life.
So I wish to share a very special Zonderkidz "Easter" store where you can find the following Resurrection themed books for children and even more titles. Click here....
My thoughts: A beautifully illustrated and sweet look at the vastness of God and what He does. And yet, in all His greatness He focuses primarily on His love for you. On each of us.
In Mostly What God Does Is Love You an inkling of the significance of the individual, you, in the mind and heart of Almighty God is presented in the contemplative thought that He loves you. While doing all the huge, magnificent, and wondrous things He does in the World and Universe, He focuses His love on each of us.
About the book: What if we shared this simple, beautiful, Biblical truth with our children from the youngest of ages—how different would we be? How wonderfully could this shape our perspectives from childhood on, knowing that the God who made all the wonders in creation—who hung the stars in the sky, who tells the wind where to blow—knows your name and loves you oh so very much?
From #1 New York Times bestselling author and TODAY show co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, this beautifully illustrated picture book showcases the wonders of nature, the beauty of God’s creation, and most importantly, how very loved you are by God. Mostly What God Does is Love You reminds children (and adults) of God’s great love for them, how very cherished they are by the creator of the universe, and how in turn, they can share that same love by being kind and compassionate to others.
With its awe-inspiring and charming illustrations and a poetic, relatableand age-appropriate message, Mostly What God Does is Love You is the perfect way for adults reading Savannah’s bestselling book Mostly What God Does to share this all-important reminder with the children they love—that the vastness of God’s love is all for them and how they can share it with others as freely as God shares his love.
Mostly What God Does Is Love You:

Is perfect for family reading, bedtime story, school or daycare story time.

This sweet, uplifting book is sure to leave a lasting impression on children and adults alike, reminding them of the most important thing in the world—God’s enormous love for us—and how we, too can spread love and kindness, just like God does.
The Easter Lamb: Jesus, Passover, and God’s Amazing Plan to Rescue Us
My thoughts: I think this is a bit unusual for an "Easter Lamb" story book. It has a deeper theological meaning though it isn't actually spoken. The story book shows the Biblical story from the early days in Bible times when the Israelites were slaves in Egypt. The lamb is pictured there as a little lamb on the pages. Present, sad, sorrowful. He travels out of Egypt with the people.
Then the pictures show the birth of the Christ child, His growth, His perfection. The story proceedes with Christ ministering to the people. And then the little lamb looks on as the darkest day happened. Jesus' death. But it wasn't over, Christ rose.
The deeper thought for me is that this picture book pictures Christ as the sacrificial lamb. And though Christ had not yet come, He always existed and He has always been the lamb of promise.
The angel in the empty tomb.
About the book: In The Easter Lamb, the traditional Easter story takes on new significance as Jesus’s death and resurrection are explored through the events of Passover. Through child-friendly text and engaging illustrations that meaningfully connect these two important events, young readers will see how God has always cared for his children and that he had a plan for our salvation from the start.
On the night he was arrested, Jesus celebrated Passover with his disciples during what we now call the Last Supper. Jesus knew he would soon have to die like the lambs who were sacrificed in place of the firstborn Israelites so that all of God’s children might live.
John Greco masterfully tells these two stories—Passover and Easter—in The Easter Lamb, weaving together their biblical symbolism and significance. You may have heard the Easter story before, but this unique take will deepen you and your child’s understanding of the holiday and explain how important the image of Christ as a lamb truly is.
The Easter Lamb is ideal for:
Introducing children 4 and up to the Passover and Easter stories
Sharing together as a family as a read-aloud or as part of a new Easter tradition
Helping young children better understand the Bible and how God’s redemptive plan connects throughout Scripture
Easter Sunday school lessons, family devotions, and gift giving
My thoughts: A cute Berenstain Bears paperback that takes the bear kiddies through the Easter day preparations, church service, and questions. Delightful and sweet in a cute way.
The children question having chicks, eggs, candy, etc. at this special time in the Christian church life. The explanation is that there is no connection except the time of remembrance the Resurrection of Christ happens to take place in the Spring when there is lots of new-ness in animals, flowers, trees. And that, too, candy is always a welcome treat.
A budget-friendly way to get a children's book that focuses on the joy of Christ's Resurrection.
About the book: Young readers will understand the true meaning behind the celebration of Easter in this addition to the Living Lights™ series of Berenstain Bears books. Join Mama, Papa, Brother, Sister, and Honey as they go to church services, have an Easter treasure hunt, and learn about Easter.
Join the Berenstain Bears as they explore the real reason of Easter and learn about Jesus’s death and resurrection. Children will discover the joy in sharing God’s goodness in Zonderkidz The Berenstain Bears Living Lights™ series of books with over 13 million copies sold since 2008.

Hey-O! Stories of the Bible
ISBN: 9780310159254 Hardcover $12.50 Amazon Prime Purchase Here
My thoughts: I remember the Bible story book that my parents bought us when I was young. That was just after WWII, and while quite accurate, it seemed geared toward older readers and listeners. I am so thankful that in today's market Christian publishing has a varied and abundant assortment of many levels of Bible story books from which parents may select. The Hey-O Stories of the Bible is for the youngster that can sit for a bit longer read-aloud-session with a mite more detail than toddlers need or for young readers who have mastered reading but still need or want a shorter version to read and an abundance of bold illustrations.
The Hey-O book has a QR code that also enables the reader (i.e. parents enabled) to see an animated version of the stories in the book on their device (iPad, etc.). I am quite impressed with the stories covering Genesis through New Testament times with Paul and Silas in jail. (Note: Revelation seems to be omitted, which is probably best for this age group.)
A wonderful gift for a child you care about or just a perfect book to have on the child or children's book shelves in a Christian home.
About the book: Through accessible storytelling and innovative video integration, Hey-O! Stories of the Bible is a storybook Bible unlike any other! Already reaching over half a million children through its animated stories on YouTube, Hey-O! My thoughts: The soft artistry of the illustrations in The Good Shepherd and the Stubborn Sheet shows a "modern" shepherd (I'd say sometime in the 1800s-2000s) and his quirky, troublesome fluffy sheep. It's cute. It's true to sheep behavior and shepherd care and attention. And in all of this, it tells the same story from God's Word, the Bible, of the "Good Shepherd" and God's Redemptive Love.
Sheep need a shepherd because they just get themselves into a real fix or jam. Example: sometimes they just fall down and end up on the back. They can't get up. They just simply can't. So there they stay until the wolf or something else endangers them. Unless the shepherd comes along and lifts them back onto their feet.
Sheep also have a way of wandering off and getting themself lost or stuck in places they can't get out of. Then the shepherd comes along and finds them.
In this delightful book, we see a stubborn sheep that get's himself into a real jam.
As in the Bible story, this retelling will help children understand how their good shepherd seeks them out and finds them. He rescues them and saves them.
I just love this sweet book for both the illustrations and story.
About the book: The Good Shepherd and the Stubborn Sheep is a humorous and heartwarming picture book about God's unconditional love. This story beautifully captures the essence of Psalm 23, showing the importance of trusting God, our Good Shepherd, with our lives.
Meet George, a silly and sometimes stubborn sheep living happily under the care of a Good Shepherd. But when shearing time comes, George decides it’s time to make a run for it, and soon finds himself on a journey full of unexpected disappointment, discomfort, and danger. Ultimately, he finds rescue and learns why he really does need a shepherd.
The Bible is full of references to sheep and shepherds, but what does it mean to be a good shepherd? And how are we like sheep? The Good Shepherd and the Stubborn Sheep uses an unforgettable character and riveting story to bring biblical truth to life for kids and illustrate the many comforting and loving attributes of God.
The Good Shepherd and the Stubborn Sheep is perfect for:
Children ages 4 and up
Family devotions and bedtime reading
Discussions about the meaning of Psalm 23, the parable of the lost sheep, and how God is always with us

There's a beautiful new Bible recently published that you will love and that will help you enjoy delving daily into God's Word. A perfect way to draw close to God in 2025 in His Word!
About Jesus Daily Bible: The CSB Jesus Daily Bible features a 52-week guided reading plan that shows Jesus throughout all of Scripture. Each week’s reading is structured thematically in a Day 1-5 reading format with a weekly introduction, helpful articles and infographics, and a weekly summary to help readers better understand Jesus’s central role in the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. Unlike other daily Bibles, the daily reading arrangement is not date specific (e.g., no “January 1”), so you can begin the plan at any point in the calendar year.

My thoughts: The copy Holman Bibles sent to me of the CSB Jesus Daily Bible is the blue hard cover edition. It has a beautiful and appealing cover with luxurious gold embossing. The Bible text itself is the Christian Standard Bible version and is a widely accepted version. The font is smaller than I personally like but is totally readable. The paper is thick with very slight shadowing of prior page typeset peeking through. The Bible is fairly heavy but not burdensome. It lays nicely flat when opened which is very appealing for desk or lap placement and ease of handling.
Versions: While the Christian Standard Bible is widely acceptable and yes, some in my own family prefer it, I am very "old school" and still prefer the old reliable King James Version.
This is a "devotional" versus a "study" Bible. The interpretive writings interspersed throughout are focusing on Jesus as he is found throughout the scriptures. You can begin this study to get through the Bible in a year any time during the year. Divided into 52 weeks and each week has five days of readying and study. That leaves two days off (or to catch up). It doesn't skip through the Bible with random readings. You go straight through from Genesis to Revelation with the focus on finding Jesus in the Scriptures.
The daily Scripture readings will therefore be somewhat lengthy (being divided by fewer days than the standard 365-read-in-a-year plans) and add in the interpretive or explanations, you have a fairly lengthy reading.
Study aids at the back of the book include a very nice and fairly extensive Concordance and a nice selection of color maps.
I have heard sermons that were real blessings to me in the past that focused on finding Jesus throughout the entire Bible - in places a non-Biblical student wouldn't normally see Him. This devotional Bible brings Jesus into one's daily read and understanding of how God has worked throughout eternity in His plan for man's redemption through Jesus.

My thoughts: This is such a treasure of a book. Each alphabet page is beautifully illustrated and will entice children to visually explore the details facilitating impacting their mind with items and ideas that use that specific letter of the English alphabet. Liberal use of deeper pastel shades of the color wheel are artistically splashed across the pages.
This unique ABC book provides guidance and opportunity for parents to assist their young children to comprehend big ideas and deeper theological understanding to young minds.
I love this beautiful book and encourage families to make sure they have and use it with their children. I purchased a copy and gifted it to a young family and they love it.
About the book: Excite kids about how great it is to be a Christian with this beautifully illustrated treasury of theological truths.
Going from A to Z, kids will learn about the amazing things that are true of us if we know Christ. For example:
A is for Adoption - we are children of God, part of his beloved family.
B is for Branch - we are connected to Jesus, the vine, and he gives us life and all we need.
C is for Citizen - we have a place in heaven, which is where we are heading.
Each letter teaches children about an aspect of our identity in Christ using Bible verses and clear engaging teaching by Alistair Begg. Reflection questions and prayers are included, making it possible to use this resource devotionally, such as for bedtime devotions or morning baskets. It can also be used as a kind of catechism, summarizing some of the Bible's truths about being a Christian. The alphabet format makes these theological truths easy to remember. Can be read to kids 4+ or read by kids 7+.
Children will be invited to praise, thank, and worship Jesus as they grow more excited about all the incredible blessings that come with being his friend. Secret word: study

My thoughts: Through the centuries, Christians have recited and taken deeply to heart the comforting words of Psalm 23. It comforts, sooths, assures, restores, guides us during our darkest moments. Often it is one of the earliest Scriptures memorized and has been set to music many times. It settles us and brings our heart and very being home to God.
In this beautiful children's book, the author brings the child's mind and heart further to being at home with God.
The substance, or depth of God's message of comfort in Psalm 23 is gently spoken in the text of this beautiful book as a "parent" gently speaks to her "child" about where their home is right then at that moment and later as they journey through life. Their home is right with God.
This book will speak volumes to any parent, grandparent, or caregiver that reads it to a child. The reader's heart and mind will be refreshed to be reminded that God's presence is ever there and everywhere with the Child of God. He, our God, is our Home.
I highly, highly recommend this book.

Mae Shepherdson’s dream of a school for the deaf has finally come to fruition. All is going well until she receives devastating news: the railroad wants to build a spur through the property where the Horizon School for the Deaf is located. What will become of the children who attend the school and the employees who so tirelessly commit their time and resources? Mae questions why God would allow the closing of a school that has been the lifeline for so many young pupils. And what of her dream that no child should endure being ostracized as she once was?
Landon Bennick is accustomed to obeying his father’s orders. He’s observed and even assisted with the building of many railroad spurs, and the newest in Horizon should be no exception. However, things grow complicated when he begins to fall in love with Mae, a soft-spoken teacher at the Horizon School for the Deaf—the same school blocking the railroad’s progress. Will Landon heed his father’s strict demands or is there another way to build the spur and save the school? Secret word: dream
When a nefarious character with vengeful intent threatens Mae, will Landon intervene before it’s too late and save the woman who has claimed his heart? Return to late 1800s Horizon, Idaho, for this heartwarming and tender romance by the author of the Wyoming Sunrise Series, Hollow Creek Series, Montana Skies Series, and Love Letters from Ellis Creek Series.
My thoughts: In this second book in the "Horizons series," the author captures the essence of America in the period when the railroads were forging ahead across the nation connecting the developed, bustling East coast with the mid-West and beyond. The story is centered on a very small township in Idaho, and the folks in this town have very mixed feelings about the railroad coming to town.
Situated in this little town is a home and school for deaf children. This is definitely a forward thinking enterprise as the language for the deaf was a fairly new development. The staff includes a grown lady that was an orphan train child and from a badly abusive situation prior to landing in the town of Horizon. (sign language)
As the story progresses we meet irresistible children, a sweet older lady, an older gentleman that survived the war who is sweet on said older lady, cranky rich folks, and a winsome heroine and captivating hero. There is a touch of danger and a whole heap of goodness.
Penny Zeller has produced another squeaky clean story which she has dedicated to..... "all of those whom the Lord has rescued and given a fresh start."
I highly recommend.
DISCLOSURE: I received a complimentary copy to facilitate a review. Opinions are mine, alone and are freely given.
My thoughts: This is a beautifully written (a great read-aloud book) storybook about Moses and the Israelites. It begins after they have crossed the Red Sea and the army of Pharaoh has been destroyed. The book covers with some emphasis and detail (though not gory) the 40-year period of wandering. Most young children's storybooks don't give this much information. Also, as a "Jesus Moments....Finding Jesus In the Story...." book, the deeper theological connections between Old Testament and New Testament (Moses and Jesus) are made in a very understandable methodology for young readers and listeners.
Given the increased detail in the story, very young listeners in the four to six year range may lose interest or miss the connections.
I absolutely love this book as well as the other Jesus Moments book, "David," that I previously reviewed. The concept of presenting where Jesus or the promises of Jesus are found in the Old Testament is fairly new for the age bracket audience of picture books.
In "Finding Jesus in the Story of Moses" we see several incidents that occurred during the 40-year wilderness journey. In each of these there is the opportunity to look for "bulrushes" which indicate that there is a "Jesus Moment" to look for on that page. This engages the child and produces involvement and opportunity to teach further details.
I love the illustrations and the readability of the story itself. The grumbling of the Israelites is really captured and God's disapproval and His patience shown.
I highly recommend this series for your age 5 to 10 year olds.
About the book: Help 4-7s learn how Moses points to Jesus with this beautifully illustrated Old Testament storybook from Alison Mitchell, the award-winning author of Jesus and the Lions’ Den and The One O’Clock Miracle.
Moments in Moses’ story when something in the story is a little bit like Jesus are signposted with symbols that children need to spot, helping them to understand the relationship between the Old and New Testaments.
This fun, interactive resource will give children skills to read the Bible as they connect the stories and learn that the whole Bible is about Jesus. Secret word: Provider. Great for parents or grandparents to give children aged 4-7. Can also be used as a homeschool resource, or for children’s ministry in church.
This is the second book in a series called Jesus Moments, which looks at how Old Testament characters point to Jesus.

My thoughts: A board book for the little ones that is written from a parent's heart to the little one. The sweet rhymes speak of the adult's desires for the little one to grow into adulthood and achieve many things. But not only do they want material success, they mostly voice the desire that the little one will be kind, generous, forgiving, loving.
A tender way to share with the little one's in your life the desires of your heart for them, and to tell them that God is watching over them in all.
Delightful. I recommend.
About the book: A charming read-aloud bedtime book for toddlers
With its sweet bedtime rhymes, I Dream a Dream for You resembles the classic title The Going to Bed Book by Sandra Boynton. A family of red pandas make their home in the forest. When it's time for bed, Mom and Dad tuck in their three kiddos, and as they all drift to sleep, dreams come to life through the vibrant pictures and story. Parents or grandparents will enjoy reading this sweet bedtime rhyme, filled with dreams and aspirations for their little ones. With amazing, colorful illustrations, this read-to-me story richly shows the love of a faith-filled family with creative, interesting scenes that kids will love to see over and over--and those who read it to them will experience the blessing of God's love, which is meant to be shown and shared with families.

Young girls will learn that they have been carefully designed by God and that whatever they do in life, they can reflect who God is by following Jesus.
My thoughts: Beautifully written to show girls that it is good, it is wonderful, it is great to be a girl. Also, that a girl can do many things that years ago were thought inappropriate for them or that they were thought to be incapable of doing.
Girl's strength to be and do wonderful things can come from a relationship with Jesus and the God of the Bible.
I think that this story book gives faith driven families an opportunity to show their girls that God the Father and His son Jesus empowers them to have the desire, strength, knowledge, and perseverance to be and do what their heart desires.
My thoughts: An adorable little one's board book with a convenient handy handle for their ease in carrying about. The illustrations are attention grabbing, fun, brightly colorful, and aid in understanding the story.
The text is lengthy enough to tell the story adequately for the intendended age audience with a vocabulary that is not "dumbed down for age."
Kregel Publishing's children's books have always been winners for engagement, accuracy, design, and lasting quality. I highly recommend.
About the book: A perfect Bible for little hands
Filled with rich and colorful illustrations and simple text faithful to the Bible, My Toddler Bible is perfect for children ages 1 to 3. The twenty-eight Bible stories include Scripture references and are taken equally from both the Old and New Testaments to form a complete arc of God's story.
Toddlers will love the built-in handle to carry their Bible with them everywhere--including church! And parents and grandparents will love that its compact form and bright pictures will inspire their little ones to engage with Scripture from an early age.
My Bigger Search and Find Bible ISBN: 9780825448478
My thoughts: Children simply love search and find books and educators (and parents) love them, too. They engage the child with the book and the content of the book. True, some of the items the child is to find have very little to do with the story, it keeps them engaged. In My Bigger Search & Find Bible children journey quickly through the Bible with brief encounters with characters and stories. While doing so, they learn of God's being bigger than their problems. As an aside, you'll note that each story page opens out to four times the book's size. Again "bigger."
I highly recommend this engaging search and find Bible story book for children. Again Kregel Publications has a winner.

If Mama Ain’t Happy: Why minding healthy boundaries is good for your whole family
My thoughts: Personally, I'm way past the "mama to a slew of kiddies" stage of life, but this book resonates deep within my being. It is a hard life being mama when the chores, daily schedules, lack of empathy, constant demands on one's being, and a constant general malaise seem to be your existence. But how to change it? How to still be mama and meet the demands on your core being.
The author's approach seems, to this grandmother, to a nice and workable way to reach a point where you can do and still be healthy.
I didn't read the entire book but listened to excerpts and I like what I heard. I think she's really onto something. The old saying "If mama ain't happy....." was a harpy way of saying keep the mama of the roost happy or ELSE you'll regret it. That IS NOT what this author is touting.
About the book: Rachel used to be a mom who spent her days weary, anxious, and guilt laden. She had five kids in five years, lived on three different continents, and then was blindsided by a devastating health diagnosis. Neglecting her own physical, spiritual, mental, and emotional needs for so long—in an effort to be a selfless mother—had left her utterly depleted. And physically unwell. Then she began asking a question she’d never considered before: Could it be that taking good care of myself is not actually selfish, but maybe, just maybe, something a responsible adult does?
In this countercultural book, Rachel takes some weight off your shoulders by:
Offering hands-on, rubber-meets-the-road strategies to cultivate a life you aren’t trying to constantly escape
Teaching you to discover and claim your own limits and boundaries so you can be a calm, resilient, peaceful mother
Showing you how to shape your daily life and values around the few things that really matter, and how to let the rest go
If mama ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy. But when mama is at peace? Everyone benefits!
