Anna's Healing by Vannetta Chapman [Review & Giveaway]

About the book: Anna's Healing is the first book in a brand-new collection from popular author Vannetta Chapman. These stories of love and family and Amish community in Oklahoma tell of the miracles that can happen when lives are lived in service to God and to one another.

When a tornado strikes the farms surrounding Cody's Creek, Anna Schwartz's life is changed forever. She suffers a spinal cord injury and suddenly finds herself learning to live as a paraplegic.

Three people--Chloe Roberts, Jacob Graber, and Ruth Schwartz--join forces to help Anna through her darkest days. Chloe is an Englischer who writes for the local paper. Jacob has recently arrived in town and stays on as a hired hand at her uncle's. And Ruth is her grandmother, a woman of deep faith and a compassionate spirit.

Then one morning Anna wakes and finds herself healed. How did it happen? Why did it happen? And what is she to do now? Her life is again turned upside down as the world's attention is drawn to this young Amish girl who has experienced the unexplainable.

My thoughts: When you pick up a Vannetta Chapman book you can count on a good read. Anna's Healing does not disappoint.

The foundation of the story is that of a young Amish woman, who is somewhat past typical marriageable age in the Amish community and is currently living a year with an aunt and uncle who are childless and her grandmother in a different Amish community from which she was raised. Insert into her life a young Amish man who has chosen to live the life of a migrant, far away from his own Amish roots in Florida. As these two meet, they develop a friendship and bond.

A third character who plays a major role in the story is non-Amish who is a reporter or writer for an area newspaper. This young lady, Chloe, and Anna develop a very strong friendship. Anna's story and that of the Amish around her is told by Chloe in the newspaper.

Disaster strikes leaving Anna paralyzed. Chloe's coverage of the disaster helps to generate interest and financial assistance for Anna's medical care. Then the unexpected happens. Anna is healed.

Overnight Anna becomes a spectacle which is unheard of amongst the Amish because they chose to live a quiet life separate and not public. People throng to Anna's uncle's farm waiting for a touch or healing to come from Anna for their own need.

This is the story of a miracle of healing and the impact it has on the individual and those around her. Who is the source of the miracle? Who can work a miracle of healing? Why isn't everyone healed who needs to be healed? These are the questions asked in the story just as they are asked by real people living real lives in today's world.

Anna's Healing took place (this is a story) in the form of her being miraculously enabled to used her legs to walk again. And while the physical healing was truly wonderful, the real healing was in the heart and spirit.

  1. My favorite genre at the moment is contemporary Christian fiction with romance. I have only been reading Amish fiction for less than a year, but the first Amish book I read prompted me to keep reading more.

  7. Christian fiction of course is tops....but I like historical & suspense as number one story lines. I've read many an Amish story and enjoyed them as well....I think last of the line would be contemporary. Vannetta Chapman is a really good Amish author and this story by her sounds exceptional :-) Thank you for the chance to win a copy of "Anna's Healing"!

  8. I read almost any Christian fiction, because I want to be able to share what I read with others. I enjoy historical fiction as well. While I also enjoy Amish fiction, I don't read it before choosing any other good sounding fiction. I have been interested in the Amish as a group longer than it has been popular to read about.
