Cards of Kindness for Courageous Girls: Shareable Devotions and Inspiration [Review & Giveaway - 5 Winners]

ISBN: 9781643521640

My thoughts: I simply can't say enough GOOD things about this lovely little devotional and inspiration book for girls. Big girls. Tween girls. Even little girls. And of course, the mommies of these Courageous Girls.

The devotions and words of inspiration are good in and of themselves. But the genius idea is that each page is a "tear-out card" that can be shared with someone - a girl that needs encouraging. Encouragement to be Courageous

It doesn't matter the age of the girl sharing the card. It worksAnd it doesn't matter the age of the recipient of the card. It works!

What is being shared? Well, on one side is a short devotional or inspirational thought with a Bible verse that fits. And on the reverse side is a cute, lovely, eye-catching graphic with encouraging words. But don't be deceived by the cute look or think that these messages are simplistic. There is power in these little shareable cards. The power of self-esteem that can best come from the in-dwelt spirit of God and God moving on the life of each person. Recognizing that you are special to God. That God is and can be special to each person.

This is a must-get for homes with girls. The price is right at SRP at $7.99 but priced lower at some buying options. Check it out. Meanwhile.... you can enter the giveaway below. There will be 5 winners! Now that's encouraging, isn't it!

About the Book:  Courageous Girls Are Kind!

Your heart will delight in spreading kindness and inspiration wherever you go with these shareable Cards of Kindness!

Flip each page to discover a positive life message that will both uplift and inspire your heart—and the hearts of other courageous girls just like you. Once you’ve read through the devotion and pondered the message of loving-kindness, tear out the card and pass it on to another girl . . who will then be encouraged to keep the "Courageous Girls Are Kind" movement going. . .by passing the card along to yet another courageous girl!

Each Card of Kindness will spark positive, faith-building discussions with other likeminded girls. You’ll enjoy spreading kindness and God's love, page by delightful page!

LISTEN UP: Ten-Minute Family Devotions on the Parables by Marty Machowski [Review & Giveaway]

My thoughts: My perception of this new devotional release by Marty Machowski is that it is on target theologically. I see the family grouping to use this book to include upper elementary and upwards to adults. Though conceived and written for parental lead devotions, it can be used as a personal devotional for older teens though it is obviously a "guided" study.

The first take-away I got from Listen Up is that when instructions are given in the Bible for us to hear ("he that hath ears to hear.....") is not simply an act of hearing. But we are to hear what is being said, listen to  our heart, and act on what we hear. True hearing involves doing or acting on what we hear. This is in the first week's lesson where the action word is "listen."

Each week has a focus..... listen, build, treasure, follow, etc.

The first parable addressed in the study is that of the sower as presented in the Gospels of Matthew and Luke. In this five day lesson plan, we learn that the parables are given to explain Christ's teachings to those with open hearts and yet some interpretation is hidden to those with closed hearts.

Each five day plan has a Get Ready and Get Set introduction that can be read on Sunday in preparation for the other five days lessons. Having a five day plan seems to allow for the busyness of Sunday and Wednesday (usually quite busy days for chuch folks) and using the five non-church days or evenings to have family devotions.

Several versions of the Bible are utilized throughout Listen Up. The passages are not lengthy so you can read your preferred version (mine is the KJV) or you can use that printed in the book itself.

As with other materials I have had the opportunity to review for New Growth Press and the author, Marty Machowski, I am quite impressed and pleased to recommend this devotional book. There is a lot of good, sound information to be gleaned from Listen Up. This is not a cute devotional book for young children and there are no illustrations or cute activities. This is straight-forward teaching that is interesting and valuable.

About the book: After teaching a parable Jesus often said, “Whoever has ears, let him hear.” In other words, “This is important, so you better listen up” and what could be more important than the good news of the kingdom of God? This family devotional provides a unique opportunity for parents to help their children “listen up” and hear the gospel as Jesus himself shared it. Jesus told simple stories using everyday activities and objects that point to surprising spiritual truths about life in his kingdom. In the parables children (and adults!) will learn to treasure the gospel.

Children love stories and the parables provide a wonderful opportunity to engage their imaginations and help them understand and live out the good news of the kingdom of God. This thirteen-week family devotional is designed to help families explore the parables that Jesus taught through reading selected parables, activities, discussion questions, and “fun facts.” Each five-day session includes Bible reading, discussion questions, a fun activity, and songs.

Adored: 365 Devotions for Young Women by Lindsay Franklin & published by Zondervan [Review & Giveaway]

My thoughts:  These devotions are so beautifully written and point the young woman reader to a loving God who adores her. But let's start at the beginning - the cover. It is stunning in design, gold foil, and utter femininity. Love the dove which speaks of the Holy Spirit.

There is the encouragement to respect one's own body and treat it with honor in regard to behavior and dress. The consistency and steadfastness of God is brought to the reader's attention. The never failing love and guidance of God for the individual is tenderly brought forth. Truly a wide range of topics appropriate for the young woman.

The short scripture with each devotional is NIV and the text is gently addressed to the young woman (and it is appropriate for women of all ages) bringing her to the realization that she is God's beloved. God's adored.

I prefer the KJV Bible but realize that for many the NIV speaks to them. This devotional is one I can highly recommend and I can't wait to share it with my granddaughter.

About the book: In an ever-changing world, we can be certain of one thing: we are beloved by God. Adored: 365 Devotions for Young Women tackles tough topics girls face, from bullying and social media to friendships and dating, all the while showing readers how infinitely precious they are in God’s sight.

Each day features an easy-to-read, relevant devotion paired with a scripture verse and journaling space to help readers reflect on the day’s message. With honest, poignant, and sometimes humorous text, every page will speak to the pressures and changes girls face, giving them real-world applications to find God in their hearts and in their lives. Perfect for everyday use, Adored will resonate with girls searching for truth and guidance. Gift givers will love this highly designed book featuring a beautiful, foiled cover, and two-color interior pages.

Scripture Doodle and Scripture Doodle God's Promises by April Knight (Coloring Devotionals) from David C. Cook Publishing

With inspiring exercises and prompts, this unique interactive guide introduces readers to a creative connection between Bible study, artistic expression, and worship.

About the books:

More than a coloring book, ScriptureDoodle is a combination of Bible study, creative expression, and artistic community with artwork shared online at #scripturedoodle. Exploring topics such as being generous, finding rest, and facing grief, ScriptureDoodle gives the heart the creative space it needs. This book stimulates the reader's imagination and helps integrate God's Word into everyday life.

ScriptureDoodle God's Promises refreshes believers who are feeling burned out or stuck in a rut in their relationship with God. Each of the creative worship prompts in this interactive guide includes biblical encouragement and ideas for worship through art. Artist April Knight includes creative lettering tips, color ideas, and completed examples to inspire readers to respond to promises in Scripture related to trust, faith, and the power of God's Word in all circumstances.

My thoughts: These delightful books are part sketch book and part devotion book. Using the tips the user/reader has the tool for the act of Worship with Art by taking time to draw and express oneself. It can open your time to connect with God. The brief devotions relate to art ideas.

There are art tips and suggestions for actual drawing. This provides a visual reminder of God's goodness and is a great way to help your teen (or as a gift for another teen) become engaged with God's Word. These books provide a tool tht will bring Scripture to life in full living color.

This would be a great gift set - the two books, and are perfect for middle schoolers or preteens and up.

About the author: APRIL KNIGHT is a worship artist based in Asheville, North Carolina. Knight's work includes live worship painting and leading ScriptureDoodle worshops online and at conferences and retreats around the country and internationally.
