My thoughts: This is a beautifully readable story set in tongue-loving rhyme. I absolutely loved reading it aloud. The story is a make-believe tale of a pig who dreams of being able to fly; and as he dreams, he begins to work toward making that dream a reality. Of course, it all rhymes.
The beauty of this story is not just the dreaming or the rhyming or the work-ethic of making one's dreams a reality. It is the "twist" at the end when that behind the scenes flock of friends is revealed as the supporters of Pig as he dreams and tries to achieve.
This is truly a story to simply enjoy, and yet it is a story with a valuable life lesson that we succeed, we achieve, we soar with the support of our friends and loved ones who lift us up with helping hands. Though it is not stated exactly, but I sense a reference to the truth that we are lifted on the "wings of prayer."
The author and illustrator have delivered a charming, totally enjoyable, and friendship oriented story that I highly recommend for homes and libraries.
