Faith Based - Family Film

Synopsis: Jeremy Avery is vying for a college golf scholarship awarded to the winner of the State Championship, but his preparation and game are affected by family pressures and having to take care of his younger autistic brother, Ethan. These challenges, along with the pressure of carrying his team to State against an opponent who will do anything to win, leads Jeremy on a journey of discovery both internal and of his brother’s savant-like gifts, that if embraced can create an unstoppable pair. On the brink of his greatest victory, Jeremy is forced to make a life-altering decision, finally realizing his own personal dreams or standing by his brother. 

My thoughts:  "The Short Game" is a beautiful movie on several aspects. The tones of color and filming skill were both excellent. In short, The Short Game is easy-on-the-eyes. It's beautiful for it is actually a squeaky clean, safe family movie to watch without being the stuff of fairy tales. And then it is beautiful because of the beautiful story of values, overcoming difficulties, and the stuff of doing the right thing.

It is about a family that, like many, struggles and who work together to handle the day to day stuff of life. The story is primarily about a high school student who strives to earn a golfing scholarship to college, and also his younger brother who is a bit different and needs big brother watching out for him.

What I found especially delightful is the portrayal of they younger brother whose neurodiversity actually is an aid to the older brother. There are some laughable moments that delight the heart.

As I said earlier, some of the photography is gorgeous. But the clincher on this film is the fact that it portrays life in reality and it is a genuine family film.
