The "Rudeness" of Internet Advertising

I fully acknowledge that advertising is here to stay and that it pays salaries, promotes business success, and generally helps the economy. But.. ...

... ... I am frankly quite tired of the invasiveness and rudeness (please pardon these coined words I'm using) that advertisers impose, rudely impose, on folks using the internet. It doesn't seem to matter where you go online, you are inundated with winking and blinking, drifting and sliding, flashing and dashing advertisements massively overtaking the entire screen.

The little "peep-hole" through which internet users are allowed to actually view the information for which they actually accessed the website is less than 1/4th of the screen.
Go back to kindergarten! Learn the rules! You do not "break in line." You do not "hit" one another.
Yes, the internet advertisement industry needs to learn that slapping the website readers in the face with this plethora of ads is tantamount to "breaking in line" and "hitting" the readers in the face.

Have you ever visiting a site and then fumbled around looking for that choice bit of information that drew you there in the first place and finally finding it? Then as you begin to read an entirely new ad jumps in right on top of that which you are reading? I have! Many times!

Folks, that is liken to Dad sitting in his overstuffed chair after a hard day at work and he is reading his newspaper.  A football is tossed across the room (yep, a no-no). The ball lands smack-dab in the middle of Dad's newspaper. Get the picture? Yep! Dad is not happy.

And I am not happy. I do not like it. I think the purveyors of advertising need to get their act together and learn the gentle art of manners and "waiting your turn." Yes, advertise. Put it on the side bar (no flashing and taking up excessive bandwidth, though). Even put a banner at the top, if you must. But LEAVE THE REST OF THE SCREEN ALONE!

  1. I agree with you. I don't like at all when I am trying to read a website and all of a sudden an ad pops up or I accidentally click on one.
Happy New Year, and hope this won't happen often this year!

  2. I totally agree with you Vera. and especially hate the ones with distracting movement. At least some have a place to delete them. But, it is very frustrating. Maxie

  3. It is terribly annoying. Often, when I see how much trouble it is to read something, I don't bother.

  4. I feel the same way Vera. In fact I get quite mad. These sorts of ads and the ones on TV that monotinous make me not buy their products instead of buying them. Maxie

  5. I totally agree with your comments about the ads. Far too many times when I'm reading an article and the ads keep appearing, I simply close the window and go on to other things. I hate wasting time waiting to pick up the story again while trying to scroll past the ads.

  6. The internet is great but it is also just a way to bombard people with ads and people hide behind the screen and can pretend to be who they are not.

  7. The Internet can be both a blessing and a pain! It is making children lazier, they don't need to leave their seat to get information, no legwork involved for them anymore! I like the old fashioned ways of doing things better!!!

  8. AMEN! And those that are vulgar or gross just make me angrier!!! It's gotten to where whenever I open an article I just start hitting the Esc. button to clear the screen! :/

  9. I so agree that it is very annoying. Especially the blinking, sliding obnoxious ads that pop up everywhere! It makes it all the more likely I WILL NOT purchase their product. I know that may sound petty or childish but I'll use my hard-earned money on another brand. Also, my son introduced me to AdBlockPlus. It's free, it works very well and I'm not annoyed by ads on any websites any more. It is safe to download. Hope this helps others out there too. You may want to donate some money sometime if you like it.

  10. YES!!! I hate it or when you are doing something and accidentally click on their stupid ads or cannot find where to close it down after it popped up and covered what you were doing

  11. I completely and wholeheartedly agree with you. I absolutely hate it when ads are everywhere on a page and then you accidentally click on it and it obscures everything else. My computer ends up slowing down and I just get so frustrated! I especially hate those ads that pop up when you least expect it and you click on them because they were in your way-UGH!

  12. I agree totally with you. I don't know how many times I will be looking at something and up pops an ad. I immediately delete it. I would be more apt to read it if it was off to the side. Maybe some day they will learn.
