Blind Betrayal (Dependers of Justice #3) by Nancy Mehl [Review & Giveaway]

My thoughts:  As usual, Nancy Mehl has written a story that has this reader on edge as the plot unravels layer by layer exposing a convoluted set of events that takes the Marshals on a treacherous journey with a journalist who was researching an expose that has brought her to the point of extreme peril.

The cast of characters are real, believable, totally fleshed out, and have this reader rooting for one or the other. I really liked Casey (the lady lead) and E.J. (the male lead). They have a history that blends good and bad memories yet it looks like the vibes between them foretell a definite romantc future for the two of them.

Blind Betrayal has a full quoto of mean guys and good ones. The story seems to explode with the unthinkable becoming a very present reality.

This is another really good suspense story in the Defenders of Justice series by Nancy Mehl. I can hardly wait to see what Nancy Mehl is working on next.

About the book: U.S. Marshal Casey Quinn is tasked with escorting a reporter to testify before a grand jury regarding a missing environmentalist. At first, the assignment seems routine. But when it becomes dangerously clear that there's more to the story than anyone knows, Casey and two other marshals--one a man from her past--will have to do whatever it takes to survive.

GOD’S BOOK OF PROVERBS (Topical arrangement)

ISBN: 9781462780013
Hardcover $9.99
B&H Publishing
My thoughts: Using the Christian Standard Bible (CSB) of the Holy Scriptures as text, the staff of B&H Publishing have compiled a small, topical collection of verses from Proverbs. This is a lovely little gift book or one that can be used for personal study or enlightenment. It would also be handy for family devotions and lessons centered on the topics under which the verses are indexed.

For example: The topic of "Anger" is listed. There are 18 verses dealing with anger. So if you are personally dealing with anger, these verses will help you get your anger under control. Or if you have a child who is angry and having trouble dealing with it, you can guide him using these verses.

The book is beautifully bound with a "cloth" hardcover reminiscent of books from years ago. It is sturdy and will last through many years of frequent reading and handling. It will perhaps become a treasure to pass along to others.
"A wise son responds to his father's discipline, but a mocker doesn't listen to rebuke." Proverbs 13:1

My preference as usual is the King James Version for Scriptures. I realize the CSB is consider trustworthy and easily understood. I also acknowledge that God's Word will never return to Him void.

With high school and college graduations and Mother's Day just ahead, this would make a meaningful and lovely gift.

About the book:  God’s Book of Proverbs includes the entire text of the book of Proverbs from the Bible arranged topically. This practical and helpful resource allows readers to quickly access and apply the wisdom and insights found in this sacred portion of Scripture. Also included is the article Connecting Wisdom to Jesus by Trevin Wax explaining how Jesus is the fount from which all wisdom flows.

The God’s Book of Proverbs features the highly reliable, highly readable text of the Christian Standard Bible (CSB), which stays as literal as possible to the Bible’s original meaning without sacrificing clarity. The CSB’s optimal blend of accuracy and readability makes Scripture more moving, more memorable, and more motivating to read and share with others.

HUG YOUR SKIN "Indulgence Collection" of Facial Care Products [Review & Giveaway] #natural #organic

Let's talk about beautiful skin

All of us could list a few basic "must do" beauty ideas, procedures, avoidances, and do-this concepts with which we are constantly being encourage to incorporate into our daily lives. We are told to stay out of the sun. Stay out of adverse weather. Stay healthy. Wash with soap. Don't wash with soap. Cream your skin. Exfoilate your skin. Use this lotion. Use this cream. Pat it on. Rub it on. Spritz it on.

You get the idea. But I believe that in all of this resounding advice the main mantra is simply to take care of your skin.

Why? It is simply, well cared for skin is lovely. Well cared for skin actually feels good! And since the skin over your entire body is the largest organ in your system, it is only rational to acknowledge that well cared for skin is a healthy protective layer of defense for your entire body.

While we're talking defense of the skin and hence defense of the body, let's just simply address the fact that harsh chemicals are unnatural and actually harmful. So it is only rational for one to pursue products that are prepared using natural ingredients and methodology that protects our skin and aso the our entire world. Hug Your Skin As Nature Intended with InLight Beauty products

My thoughts: This is a unique collection of face skin products and I have just begun to use the samples sent to me by "Hug Your Skin." I am finding that it takes just a tiny, tiny bit and the basic  concept of the products is the utilization of nourishing oils to cleanse and soften the skin and thus aid in slowing of the aging process.

The Face Cleanser works beautifully to cleanse. Frankly, I was amazed.  I followed this with the Floral Face Tonic which is a clear, watery liquid. My sample was small so I didn't use a cotton ball saturated with the tonic. I simply dabbed my fingertip with the product about four times and this gave me enough tonic to rub all over my face. With a larger bottle, I would recommend using a cotton pad or cotton ball to avoid skin-to-product contamination. This seems to work as a toner and is quite refreshing.

I used the Daily Face Oil in a tiny amount applied to my face just prior to moisturizing. I allow it to set a few moments. Using a face oil in addition to moisturizer enriches the skin and really provides a healthy glow to the skin. You don't end up with an "oily looking face," though.

After the oil application, I applied either my makeup foundation (a liquid) or I used a pressed powder. I finished applying the amount of makeup I wanted for that particular day. The oil seems to help my skin have a lovely glow which is so nice. And I know that using oil on the face aids in slowing the skin's aging process.

Fragrance: There is a natural, and I think, beguiling scent to each of these products resuting from the maceration of the plant products in the oil during the infusion process. The scent is delicate and very pleasant. You experience this upon application and it dissapates quite quickly. I totally love these scents.

Do be aware, this is not your run-of-the-mill drug store or department store product. This is a quality, "hand made" in small batches product that is organic and all natural. The prices are higher than some woud anticipate, but they are well-earned prices befitting a quality product.

When Paul Met Artie: The Story of Simon & Garfunkel by G. Neri and illustrated by David Litchfield. [Review & Giveaway - USA/CANADA]

ISBN: 9780763681746
Hardcover $17.99 ~ Approx. 10"x12"
Candlewick Press
My thoughts: This children's picture book biography of Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel (i.e. Simon & Garfunkel) was an interesting read. Things I learned .....

Paul and Artie are contemporaries of mine. Well, I might be three or four years older, but basically we're contemporaries who grew up with the music and societal mores of the 1950's. By the time these two began to make waves (though they had splashed around quite a bit prior) in the music world, I was engulfed in the busy "mommy" world of raising children and not really into the "music scene" of the time

It was a busy and bewildering time on the world-scene and particularly on the American stage of change and politics. During this period we saw the assignation of President J.F.Kennedy and his brother Attorney General of the US Robert Kennedy. We also saw the raw and ugly and fierce and determined world of racial change and uprising. Then another assignation - Martin Luther King, Jr. It was also a time of drastic challenges to the way things were done, the political scene, the war in Vietnam, and a general challenge of the establishment.

So the 1960's birthed much change in America and part of that change was the music.

Paul and Artie (and I) grew up during the early days of Rock and Roll. This was not heavy metal music of the 1980's and 1990's but  it was different. But Paul and Artie gave to Rock and Roll a folksy tone. Their harmonies were beautiful. Their music and the words expressed deep seated emotions of grief (Kennedy's assignation) and other areas.

This children's book takes us back to Paul and Artie's beginning as young Jewish boys growing up in the New York area. They meet, become friends, and later discover their ability to blend their talents creatively. Their journey was fraught with starts and stops, ups and downs, joys and disappointments.

But their journey made them a legend in the music world. And during my busy time as a young mother scurrying to and fro with my children, I played the radio. I didn't know who I was listening to but I remember "Bridge Over Troubled Water," "Sound of Silence," and who knows what else of their recordings....

Folks who enjoyed the music of Simon and Garfunkel during their young adult years will relish this childred's book and will want to share it with children they know to let them learn how two boys meet, became friends, and went on to become succesful musicians.

About the book: From childhood friendship to brief teenage stardom, from early failures to musical greatness — the incredible story of how Simon & Garfunkel became a cherished voice of their generation.

Long before they became one of the most beloved and successful duos of all time, Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel were just two kids growing up in Queens, New York — best friends who met in a sixth-grade production of Alice in Wonderland and bonded over girls, baseball, and rock ’n’ roll. As teens, they practiced singing into a tape recorder, building harmonies that blended their now-famous voices until they sounded just right. They wrote songs together, pursued big-time music producers, and dreamed of becoming stars, never imagining how far their music would take them. Against a backdrop of street-corner doo-wop gangs, the electrifying beginnings of rock ’n’ roll, and the rise of the counterculture folk music scene, G. Neri and David Litchfield chronicle the path that led two young boys from Queens to teenage stardom and back to obscurity, before finding their own true voices and captivating the world with their talent. Back matter includes an afterword, a discography, a bibliography, and a fascinating list of song influences.

The Kremlin Conspiracy by Joel C. Rosenberg (Political thriller by New York Times bestselling author)

ISBN: 9781496406170
Hardcover $27.99
Tyndale House Publishers
My thoughts: The stakes can't get much higher than this political thriller set in Russia.

The story runs with two parallel story lines set in two vastly different countries and political atmospheres. Following the youth to maturity of a rising Soviet man and an American who serves in the military and secret service, Rosenberg brings the two together in averting a catastrophe of world shattering magnitude.

The scenario is such that it is mind-boggling to conceive that such action could actually occur or be conspired into actual being.

With veiled shadows of currently living major players in the world scene, it is a piece of fiction. But could it happen? Let's prayerfully hope not.

Rosenberg has previously written stories of political intrigue and events that, though fiction, seemed to be ripped straight from the newspaper or evening news broadcast. This is no exception and you almost feel like turning on the news to see if it has really happened.

The building story is a fast paced read that climaxes with such intensity that you hold your breath as you turn page after page. Landing on the last page you wonder, where next? Surely this doesn't end here?

I found this a fascinating book to read and highly recommend it. I look with anticipation toward a sequel to The Kremlin Conspiracy and resolution of these uncharted and strange waters.

About the book: Everything he learned to protect our president, he must use to take out theirs.

With an American president distracted by growing tensions in North Korea and Iran, an ominous new threat is emerging in Moscow. A czar is rising in the Kremlin, a Russian president feverishly consolidating power, silencing his opposition, and plotting a brazen and lightning-fast military strike that could rupture the NATO alliance and bring Washington and Moscow to the brink of nuclear war. But in his blind spot is the former U.S. Secret Service agent, Marcus Ryker, trained to protect but ready to kill to save his country.

Tealyra Stove-Top Safe Borosilicate Glass Teapot / Kettle

If you are a lover of well brewed tea, you most likely have a favorite teapot. You might even have an assortment of teapots. I know I do. I have a lovely English Bone China teapot, and a couple of porcelain teapots. I have a simple kitchen-ware-clay type and a beautiful clear glass teapot. I also have one designed like a little English Tea Shop. I'm not a true collector, I just have a few.

The promise of good things to come! New teapot!Fresh blend of rooibos tea!
Out of the box and ready
The pictured teapot is my newest and it is a wonderful high quality heat-resistant borosilicate glass teapot that has a very lovely and highly utilitarian design.

Stainless steel hinged lid fits snugly in opening.
Basket for tea is deep for brewing a little or a lot.
The lines are simple with a short spout that is situated near the top of the pot which I really like. You see, if the spout is long and low then the liquid in the pot seeks its own level which means the liquid goes right on up into the spout. This gets pretty dicey when you have a pot that you heat the water in. As it begins to heat it expands and bubbles right out of the spout. This does not happen with the Tealyra pot unless you tend to overfill the pot.
You may use glass teapot directly on the stove top.
I recommend medium heat. It comes to a boil fairly quickly.
As you can see, movement has begun so it is nearly ready
immerse tea basket.
I like that the lid to the teapot is stainless steel metal. You know it is so easy to break those delicate glass lids! So with this lovely teapot the lid is metal and is hinged to the ring that snaps into the top of the teapot. And the basket is removable.

A picture is worth a thousand words and I just want to show you a bit......
