Using the accurate, readable, and clear New International Version (NIV) text makes the Bible accessible and easy-to-read for kids. The NIV is the result of over 50 years of work by the Committee on Bible Translation, who oversee the efforts of many contributing scholars. Representing the spectrum of evangelicalism, the translators come from a wide range of denominations and various countries and continually review new research to ensure the NIV remains at the forefront of accessibility, relevance, and authority. Every NIV Bible that is purchased helps Biblica translate and give Bibles to people in need around the world.

My thoughts: Today's publishers are providing a wonderful choice of Bibles that had added appeal to children and teens as well as adults. A variety of versions, such as the NIV, provide readability for young folks. I personally prefer the King James Version but am glad that God's Word is proliferating.

In this Beautiful Word™ Coloring Bible for Girls young girls will find a joy and pleasure in studying God's Word and focusing on key ideas and key verses via the drawings which they can color. So this Bible is illustrated, but the girl provides the colors. A good design and one to capture a girl's heart just as we wish for her heart to be captured and fall in love with God's Word.

Tony Evans Study Bible from Holman Publishing [Review & Giveaway - Ends Dec. 10)

I am honored to review the Tony Evans Study Bible. This is a beautifully crafted Bible from reputable Holman publishing house. The theme (if one can title it such) of this edition is "Advancing God's Kingdom Agenda."

A Perfect Christmas Gift for Someone Special in Your Life!

My personal thoughts: The first "study Bible" I can recall is the one my father used and later passed on to me. It was the Scofield Reference Bible which was published in the King James Version and held notes by Dr. Scofield, eminent orator and preacher, indexed to the verses.. I loved that Bible and the insightful notes. That came out around 1916 or so and in the 1950s was still the "go to" study Bible. I have my own newer copy of this same "Old Scofield Bible" but a couple of other study Bibles as well.

It is interesting to see the way publishers are gearing their Bible printing with study helps to various audiences - boys, girls, children, teens, women, men. That is good, but it is also good to have a Bible that is appropriate for any and all.

Several years ago I began to hear the name "Tony Evans" dropped as a preacher that was worth listening to. He was making a difference. I heard one sermon by him on YouTube upon recommendation of a relative. I was quite impressed, although my being impressed was not what was important. What was important was his adherence to the Word of God, his clear and concise delivery, and the influence he had on his listeners.

The Tony Evans Study Bible is in the Christian Standard Bible version which is fast becoming a standard in Baptist churches. I'm still partial to the King James, but do see the value in this newer version. In this new study Bible, there are features you'll see in most study Bibles -- concordance, maps, etc. There are also articles by Tony Evans, devotionals, a harmony of the Gospels, etc. So much to use to glean nuggets of gold more readily from the richness of God's Word.

Beautifully bound in leathertouch and with thin, paper the feel of this Bible in your hands is that of quality and perfection. Black and Brown Leathertouch cover is soft and flexible. The Bible has a "hefty" feel but is comfortable in my hands.

There are modern, technological links in the print version and you can use the QReader on your mobile to access short comments. Example: The QReader for the Introduction to the Book of Exodus is just over 4 minutes in length where Tony Evans gives a visual intro to that Book of the Old Testament.

FAMILY DEVOTIONAL BIBLE ESV [Review & Giveaway]

The Holy Bible is God's love letter to mankind presenting the Savior, Jesus Christ and offering redemption. Christian parents should desire to share this special love letter with their children.

Crossways has printed a new copy of the ESV Christian Bible containing the Old and New Testaments specifically designed to aid in family devotionals. Make no mistake, this is NOT a story book. This is the Bible. And inserted within the pages of the Bible's text are pages and illustrations of 130 key stories of people and events that will aid in family devotionals. There is a distinction between the text of the Bible itself and the stories inserted which help teach the lesson of the Bible's text.
These illustrations are neither "cute" nor "cartoonish." No, these are lovely paintings showing what it must have been like at that particular time and place. This art renders respect to the story and helps one to appreciate God's Word for the truth it is.

I am happy to have an opportunity to provide my readers here on Chat With Vera an opportunity to have their own family copy of the Family Devotion Holy Bible (ESV).

ESV FAMILY DEVOTIONAL BIBLE is a hardbound colorful Bible.  It retells 130 key stories from the Bible with full color illustrations for each story, as well as placed within the Bible text where it is found. The stories are simplified and easy for children of all ages to understand. And each story has discussion questions and suggestions for additional reading which are designed to help families as they read the Bible together and apply its truth in all aspects of their lives.

Features:

  • Double-column, paragraph format
  • 130 full-page, full-color illustrations
  • Full-color maps
  • Reflection questions for the whole family to discuss
  • Ribbon marker
  • Smyth-sewn binding

The Under the Sea Holy Bible (NIrV for children ages 6 to 10) [Review & Giveaway]

About the book: Themes of underwater fun and sparkling fish grace the interior of this wonderful children’s Bible. The outside is covered in foil and sparkle. The interior has color inserts featuring whimsical underwater scenes with themes of God’s care and love for each of us and all of creation.

My thoughts: I prefer the King James Version of God's Word but realize that the NIV is a very much read version and one that younger families are using. So I agreed to receive and review a copy of this NIrV "Under the Sea Holy Bible." (NIrV = New International Readers Version)

Today's children seem to have a plethora of Bible covers and incentives to delve into God's Word. The premise of an "Under the Sea" Bible seems to be that God created all creatures including those under the sea.The theme, while interesting and cute, lends no devotional aspect.

Now about the Bible and extra pages inside. I found the print very small and the pages thin where the shadow-bleed from the reverse of the page interferes with reading. Children mostly can read very small print, but this is small.

There are eight colorful pages with under the sea images ...

  • What prayer is
  • Title page
  • Books of the Bible
  • The Lord's Prayer (KJV)
  • Ten Commandments for Kids (re-done for kids)
  • Love passages for kids (based on I Corinthians 13)
  • Famous children of the Bible
  • ABCs of Becoming a Christian

The following helps are included:

  • Great Bible Stories (list)
  • Dictionary (very limited)

What is good about it....

  • A very sturdy, hard cover edition
  • It is bright and cheerful and enticing to a child or tween.
  • It is a version many are familiar with.
  • It encourages the child to use his or her Bible.

What I don't care for....

  • Prefer the same option in different versions not just NIrV
  • Thin paper
  • Tiny print
  • $24.99 is a hefty price for a child's Bible.

Places where you can purchase it: Barnes & Noble  Walmart  Family Christian Stores

Inside pages: "Presentation Page" and first page and chapter of Genesis
