Back In the Saddle by Ruth Logan Herne [Giveaway]

About the book: The prodigal is coming home.

It's been a long time since Colt Stafford shrugged off his cowboy legacy for shiny Manhattan loafers and a promising career on Wall Street. But when stock market manipulations leave him financially strapped, the oldest son of legendary rancher Sam Stafford decides to return to the sprawling Double S ranch in Gray's Glen, Washington. He's broke, but not broken, and it's time to check in with his ailing father, and get his legs back under him by climbing into the saddle again.

He doesn't expect to come home to a stranger pointing a loaded gun at his chest---a tough yet beautiful woman that Sam hired as the house manager. Colt senses there's more to Angelina Morales than meets the eye and he's determined to find out what she's hiding . . . and why.

Colt's return brings new challenges. Younger brother Nick has been Sam's right-hand man at the ranch for years and isn't thrilled at having Colt insert himself into Double S affairs. And the ranch's contentious relationship with the citizens of Gray's Glen asks all the Stafford men to examine their hearts about what it truly means to be a neighbor.  And as Wall Street recovers, will Colt succumb to the call of the financial district's wealth and power---or finally the courage to stay in the saddle for good?

  1. I know of several "prodigals" and it brings so much joy to my heart to see them return to church, family and friends.

    1. I love it when a family mends old wrongs and hurts. If we can't mend our family riffs, how can we find peace on a bigger scale? I'm with you, Sonja!

  2. I will try to bring some joy to my mom today who became a widow last week. I will try to make a little sunshine for her dreary day.

  4. I feel like I'm living a second chance at life since my divorce. It was something I did not want, and was pretty devastating, but God has helped me heal and hopefully become a better person.

    1. Pam, I know several people who feel the same way after time. Divorce is like death, it's a rugged path and so emotional... I'm so glad you're doing well. God bless you.

  5. I work at an elementary school as a special ed para. Each morning I pray to be kind, caring, compassionate, competent, and to show God's love to everyone I meet. I hope through that, even just a smile as I pass a child in the hall, I can bring joy to someone.

    1. Sometimes a smile is all the joy a person has in his or her day. So NEVER take the opportunity to share a smile for granted and be sure you never hesitate to give that smiling ray of sunshine and joy to someone.

I have a daughter that is a special ed teacher and she nurtures with love each of her students

    2. Pam, I did that too! For nine years I worked in Special Ed, in a classroom for emotionally disturbed children and I learned so much... but also learned that a smile shared was a wonderful peacemaker.

    1. A great reminder to never take lightly the opportunities to connect with family and share our love and memories

    2. Jan, that's a gift right there. Vera, I totally agree with you, we never know when a chance might be the last chance we're given. Why risk it? Forgiveness is good, it feels good, and if we can just swallow a thick lump of pride, it feels so good to move forward!

  8. My sister called me a little while ago. She is caring for a lady that has many health problems. My sister was going to try and fix the gal something to be on hand for her supper. The only available food is a box of Rice-a-roni. The lady has no money. My sister has very little money, but I suggested she go buy a small can of chicken to add to the Rice-a-roni, which she thought was a great idea. So, if all goes as planned, this gal should have something decent to eat this evening.

  11. I had a friend who learned she had cancer while she was pregnant. She had to put off treatment with chemotherapy until after her baby was born or have an abortion. She chose to continue with the pregnancy, and, though it was a really rough journey, she now has a beautiful daughter, and she is 7 years cancer-free!
