Monsters: "Dining With . . . Monsters! A Disgusting Way To Count To 10!" by Agnese Baruzzi [Review & Giveaway]

ISBN 9788854409538
Hardcover - $14.95
European Import - Ages 3-5
As I said in a previous book review, I'm not particularly fond of monsters. Well, what I mean is monster stories and all the stuff 'n nonsense that goes along with scary, hairy stuff. But I recently had the opportunity to snag two or three "monster" books written for the very young, and I have been delightfully surprised. So here is my next "monster" book review.....

In Dining With... Monsters! A Disgusting Way To Count To 10! the author, Agnese Baruzzi, has imagined and brought to the kiddies a delightfully disgusting look at monsters and all the revolting stuff they might eat and presented this absurd information in a unique lift-the-flap book. Kiddies will love it. They will giggle. They will scrunch up their face. They will drag this little book around with them trying to disgust mommy or daddy many times. So just what do monsters dine on?

First of all, "Horrible Monster" (he is black) introduces his friends - 9 of them. Each is horribly different and very imaginative.
The Horrible Monster black-as-coal.... gobbled up 1 spider whole
The Giant Troll that shrieks and whines... gobbled up 5 porcupines!
As you can see, the names are descriptive of the monsters "features" and what they eat rhymes with their name. The illustrations are boldly drawn in vivid colors with each monster completely taking up the two page spread.

This is a scary fun book. Have a bit of fun with this one and laugh with your little ones.

  1. Ha ha yes as an adult I still have to keep my feet covered up with a blanket even if it's 100° out so the monsters don't get me my 11-year-old son laughed when I make him cover up his feet for that reason

  2. I don't know what you would call it but for example when my son used to have nightmares about a Pumpkinhead monster we put the monster in the back of our truck and drove him away from the house so he couldn't get my son anymore

  6. My oldest grandson was tending the younger kids for the first time. He called us on a regular basis because of noises and "footsteps" etc. one evening, then he called again to say he had heard shots fired. I had to laugh just a bit because out front in the neighborhood there was a fireworks display. We had to go over to visit for a while till he felt better about things.

  9. Not afraid of much really. I do have a ghost story though that did happen to me. When I was first married we moved into a duplex with one unit in front and one in back. I had the one in back and another lady & her husband had the front.I would visit with her and she told me that she had seen an old man at least she thought that's what it was come down out of her attic while she was sitting at her vanity but would only see him in her mirror,he would be gone when she turned around. She had also had things move around she knew shouldn't have been. In my end and hers the attic was reached by pull down stairs. I thought ah just a ghost story until one night I was home alone and fell asleep on the couch, and something woke me a while later. I seemed to hear a voice telling me to check my door but I thought ah I am just waking up from a dream cause no one was around and this had never ever happened before where I heard a voice say check your door. However I did come fully awake and decided maybe my intuition or some sixth sense had woken me so I started checking just to reassure myself as had my baby sleeping in other room. The more wide awake I became the more aware I became that their was a strange sound coming from the window in my other room. My first reaction was open curtain and check to see what was going on but then being in a not great neighborhood decided I'd best not do that. I took baby went out my other door and went up to ladies in front her husband was home and in military so he took his gun and went out & checked things out. Mean time we called the police from her house as I did not have phone in yet. When police arrived they said they found someone had been cutting my window screen but they didn't catch him.Long story short if it was a ghost who woke me initially he was at least a friendly ghost. No matter however what ever it was it saved me that night and my baby also.

  10. I hopefully helped children by talking to them about their fears and trying to comfort them. also by keeping night lights on and making sure they had a trusted cuddly toy to sleep with. I always tried to ensure they didn't watch scary or violent movies when they were small.

  16. Scared of monsters? If you count me having to keep my closet door shut or almost near shut, not being able to sleep with the door room open and covering up a body mirror or mirror before bedtime, count me in!!!

  18. I never was really scared of monsters under my bed or anything growing up. I did have weird feelings about my house though and I thought there might be ghosts.

  19. I think you can help children deal with their fears by explaining to them what is going on that's making them scared (if possible) and by showing them kindness and love.

  20. When my husband is working the night shift, I let my son sleep in bed with me. I do this mainly for my benefit. His snuggles are comforting when there's a bump in the night lol. He's 2 and my husband can't figure out why he wakes up in the middle of the night some times, standing up in his crib, yelling "mommy bed".
